Robert Bender is an Associate at Mullen Coughlin. Mr. Bender focuses his practice on representing clients that experience data privacy events. After a data privacy event has occurred or is suspected, Mr. Bender assists clients in addressing crucial points of fact and law quickly and effectively, including determining the nature and scope of the intrusion, identifying the affected individuals and types of information involved, determining what state, federal and foreign laws govern the client’s notice of the incident and preparing legally compliant notices to affected individuals, regulators and other parties, where required. Mr. Bender also assists clients with responses to regulatory investigations and inquiries at the state and federal levels, which frequently occur as the result of a data privacy event.
Prior to joining Mullen Coughlin, Mr. Bender practiced civil litigation for three years, handling a variety of complex cases arising under the False Claims Act, Title IX, products liability and toxic tort and personal injury defense in both state and federal court. In addition to his legal knowledge, Mr. Bender draws on the insight and perspective he gained as a Communications Officer in the United States Marine Corps to guide his clients through data privacy events and help them effectively respond to incidents that arise.
