Alexander Walker is a Partner at Mullen Coughlin, assisting organizations in the preparation for, and response to, actual and potential data privacy and security incidents. After an incident has occurred or is suspected, he assists in addressing crucial points of fact and law quickly and effectively, including:

  • determining the nature and scope of the incident;
  • identifying the affected individuals and types of data involved;
  • determining what state, federal and international laws govern the organization’s notice of the incident; and
  • preparing legally compliant notices to affected individuals, regulators and other parties, where required.

Alex also assists organizations with response to formal regulatory investigations and inquiries at the state and federal levels, which frequently occur as the result of a data privacy and security incident. He regularly advises his clients regarding compliance with various data privacy and information security requirements, including state data breach notification laws, federal laws such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

As a former Assistant District Attorney, Alex worked closely with victims, witnesses and law enforcement agencies to investigate and litigate criminal matters. Today, he uses those skills to assist his clients with responding to data privacy and security incidents.
