Cairon Overton is an Associate with Mullen Coughlin, practicing in the Incident Response practice group. As a Breach Coach โ€“ primarily for federal, state and local governments and other public entities โ€“ he leads the investigation and response into real or suspected data privacy and security incidents such as ransomware attacks, business email compromises (BECs) and other network intrusions.

With over a decade of national security experience, most recently as a Cyber Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Cairon has developed a deep understanding of the cybersecurity risk landscape, threat vectors and actors/groups and remediation strategies. This experience enables Cairon to not only identify vulnerabilities and predict certain threats, but also navigate the complex legal and regulatory data privacy and information security frameworks and ensure organizational compliance with everchanging U.S. state and federal data privacy laws.

During his time with DHS, Cairon provided strategic guidance for governments at all levels regarding the protection of critical infrastructure and industrial cyber controls. He also developed strong relationships with cybersecurity and other incident response stakeholders while he assisted state and local governmental entities with the selection and procurement of network intrusion and SIEM technologies.

Cairon further honed his legal skills after graduating from Rutgers Law School as a Law Clerk with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) โ€“ first with the Office of the Solicitor General, followed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
