Michael Jervis is a Partner at Mullen Coughlin and focuses his practice on assisting clients in preparing for, and responding to, data privacy and security incidents. He provides counsel as clients respond to both data privacy and security incidents and regulatory investigations. After determining the scope of an incident, Michael identifies the governing state, federal, international and contractual duties that dictate the requisite response, and helps his clients satisfy the necessary regulations and plan to prevent such future incidents. He has assisted clients in industries including healthcare and life sciences, manufacturing and distribution, professional services and financial services.

Michael also assists clients in defending claims that arise from data privacy and security incidents, whether single claims of lost business or stolen funds, or consumer class actions. He evaluates claims to determine potential merit and value, as well as potential defenses. He then works with his clients to develop a strategy for reaching an amicable resolution of the matter or vigorously defending against the claims as the situation warrants.

Prior to joining Mullen Coughlin, Michael practiced civil litigation for more than five (5) years, focusing on insurance coverage, commercial litigation and personal injury defense. As part of that practice, he routinely handled cases involving exposure to his clients into the millions of dollars and investigated and defended against those claims through investigations and court appearances.

Before his legal career, Michael worked in software development and information technology, experience he brings to bear when counseling his clients who have suffered a data privacy and security incident.
