Michelle “Michi” Rodriguez is an Associate with Mullen Coughlin and practices in the Incident Response practice. As a Breach Coach for organizations who have been victimized by a data privacy and security incident, Michi directs the response and investigation into the incident to assist the victim organization in identifying and containing the incident; with mitigating the effects of the incident; and to oblige with relevant data privacy and information security laws and regulations. Throughout the incident response process, she also serves as the liaison between the victim organization and other third-party stakeholders, such as cyber insurance carriers and brokers; local, state and federal law enforcement and regulatory agencies; forensic investigation firms; and others that are involved in supporting the incident response process.

Michi joined Mullen Coughlin from a large AmLaw 50 law firm, where she was an associate practicing complex litigation, investigations and investment fund regulatory compliance. As part of her practice, Michi investigated the circumstances surrounding her clients’ failure to renew their cyber insurance policy, as well in reviewing her clients’ privacy policies to confirm compliance with data privacy and information security regulations enacted by financial regulators.

Prior to her private practice, Michi’s interest and experience with data privacy law was supplemented by her work at Georgetown University Law Center’s Technology and Privacy Center. There, among other research and projects related to data privacy, she worked with a team to draft a proposed federal consumer privacy bill.

Michi is a J.D. graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and received her B.A. magna cum laude from Florida International University. She also is a U.S. Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) bestowed upon by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
