Obi Onyeozili is an Associate with Mullen Coughlin, practicing in the Incident Response practice group. An experienced attorney with over five (5) years of legal experience in both private and public practice, he focuses his current practice on responding to, and handling, data privacy and security incidents on behalf of organizations of all sizes and from across all industry groups. He works closely with victim organizations and the relevant incident response stakeholders to quickly identify and contain the incident, identify the pertinent laws and regulations that govern their response and then works diligently to counsel the organization on their legal, regulatory and contractual obligations stemming from the incident. He also responds to formal and informal investigations and inquiries from U.S. state and federal regulatory agencies regarding the incident and the organizations response and investigation.

Prior to joining Mullen Coughlin, Obi was a practicing litigator for a full-service litigation firm in Washington, DC. There, he supported the antitrust litigation group with research and analysis pertaining to antitrust matters as well as general litigation and discovery.

Before private practice, Obi served as a Law Clerk for the Superior Court for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. In addition to his clerk responsibilities, he served as Counsel to internal Superior Court organizations where he advised on local and federal regulatory matters. Furthermore, prior to his clerkship, he was an Associate Counsel with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He routinely reviewed and analyzed evidence and recommended appropriate courses of action for the Board of Veterans’ Appeals. These is experience he uses when counseling victim organizations on their next steps after experiencing a data privacy and security incident.

While a J.D. candidate at George Washington University Law School, Obi served as a Board Member of the Black Law Student Association and was the “Notes Editor” for the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal.
