Aaron Matos is an Associate in the Incident Response practice. As “Breach Counsel” for organizations who have been victimized by a data privacy and security incident, Aaron counsels his clients on the legal, regulatory and industry-specific obligations stemming from the incident. This includes reporting the incident to law enforcement (if necessary and/or applicable), individual notification, internal and external communications about the incident and engaging other third-party vendors to assist with post-incident credit/identity monitoring and public relations. He also regularly assists his clients with responding to follow-up regulatory inquiries regarding data privacy and security incidents.
Prior to joining Mullen Coughlin as an Associate, Aaron was a Law Clerk with the Firm’s Litigation and Incident Response practices. Working closely with Partners during privacy and security litigation matters, Aaron drafted motions to dismiss, responses to class actions and provided analysis on risk and liability. He also conducted legal research and document review for a variety of privacy and security litigation matters.
During law school at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, Aaron served as an Articles Editor for the International Law Review Association, where he authored articles on data privacy law and national security policy. Aaron currently serves as a Council Member of the Dallas Bar Association’s Science & Technology Section.
Aaron received his J.D. from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and is licensed to practice in Texas. He also holds a B.A. in International Relations from the University of West Florida.
While a J.D. student, Aaron served with the SMU Dallas Kids Project and Allies Against Slavery.
