Alex Fochios is an Associate in Mullen Coughlin’s Advisory Compliance practice. She devotes her practice to counseling organizations of all sizes and across all industry sectors with proactive and pre-incident compliance and incident preparedness services. She routinely prepares and executes Cyber Incident Response Tabletop Exercises for her clients to test their preparedness and effectiveness in responding to a data privacy and security incident. She also drafts processes and policies that align her clients’ business and operations with prevailing U.S. and international privacy law frameworks and regulatory guidance.
Alex is well-versed in assessing laws and regulatory developments under various U.S. state and federal jurisdictions, as well as those in the United Kingdom (UK) and European Union (EU), including:
- Comprehensive U.S. state privacy laws like the California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA), and it’s amendment the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA);
- U.S. federal laws such as the:
- Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA);
- Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA);
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and
- Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA); and
- the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Alex was a Law Clerk with Mullen Coughlin prior to her law school graduation. As a Law Clerk, she assisted attorney teams with data privacy and security incident response and cybersecurity preparedness activities. She also assessed case law, drafted legal memos and translated findings into actionable and practical guidance for internal Partner teams.
Alex received her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law, where she was a Senior Staffer and Comment Author for the Administrative Law Review, the Editor-in-Chief for the Legislation and Policy Brief and a Senior Member of the Tech, Law & Security Society. She is licensed to practice in New York.
Alex also holds a MA in Diplomacy and International Law from the American University of Paris and a B.A. in Economics and International Studies from the University of Wisconsin.
