Bacilio Mendez II is an Associate practicing in Mullen Coughlin’s Litigation practice group. A competent civil litigator with nearly five (5) years of experience, he routinely defends organizations in single-plaintiff, class action and B2B litigation arising from data privacy and security incidents, violations of state and federal consumer protection and data privacy laws and breach of contract, among others. He is well-versed in settlement negotiations; drafting and defending motions; responding to discovery requests; and taking and defending party, witness and expert depositions, while preparing for mediation, arbitration or, if necessary, trial. While generally industry-agnostic, he has a keen interest in defending organizations in the manufacturing and distribution, financial services and retail industry group sectors.

Prior to joining Mullen Coughlin, Bacilio was a general litigation attorney at a full-service AmLaw 200 law firm. There, he focused on the defense of premises, transportation and general liability claims against a variety of regional, national and global corporate clients. He also gained valuable insurance defense experience working closely with insurance carrier clients while providing case summary, analysis and valuation memos regarding his case load.

Prior to his law firm career, Bacilio served as Associate Regional Counsel for the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Special Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ); helped found the Blockchain Law for Social Good Center at Golden Gate University School of Law; and was the Director of Information and Compliance for a wealth management firm.

Outside of his practice, Bacilio volunteers his time with numerous San Francisco-based community organizations, such as The Sisters; GLIDE SF; Tenderloin Tessie Holiday Dinners; and Openhouse SF, as well as with several national non-profit organizations like the After Violence Project; the Prison Library Support Network; and the Community Archives Collaborative.

Bacilio received his J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law and is licensed to practice in California. He also holds a dual LL.M. in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law and Tax Law from Golden Gate University Bruce F. Braden School of Taxation, an M.B.A. from Golden Gate University Edward S. Ageno School of Business and an M.S. in Library & Information Science from Pratt Institute.
