Brooks Goode, CIPM is an Associate in the Firm’s Advisory Compliance practice group. He focuses his practice on counseling organizations across all industry group with pre-incident and proactive data privacy, information security and incident response preparedness. He is a U.S. Certified Information Privacy Manager bestowed upon by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

Brooks assists his clients with the development of comprehensive data privacy and information security compliance programs that are tailored to reflect their industry group sector, geographic scope of operations and cyber risk profile. He is well-versed in the intricacies of various U.S. state-specific comprehensive data privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)/California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) and the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), among others. Additionally, he counsels his clients on their compliance with federal and international data privacy and protection laws including, among others, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA); the Federal Trade Commission Act (FTCA); and the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Brooks also regularly facilitates Cyber Incident Response Tabletop Exercises for organizations in order to prepare them for a data privacy and security incident, such as a ransomware attack, business email compromise (BEC) or other unauthorized network intrusion. In addition, he assists in the review and/or development of Incident Response Plans (IRPs) and other data privacy policies and procedures.

Prior to joining Mullen Coughlin, Brooks was a Senior Privacy Analyst Attorney with a global telecommunications company. There, he drafted privacy impact and threshold assessments; determined privacy risk levels based on CCPA/CPRA and GDPR guidance; and conducted and reviewed international privacy assessments, among other duties.

Brooks received his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he was also a member of the “Sports and Entertainment Law Society.”
