Charnique (Char) Johnson is an Associate in Mullen Coughlin’s Incident Response practice. She focuses her practice on leading privileged responses and investigations into data privacy and security incidents on behalf of organizations across the United States and from all industry sectors. Working hand-in-hand with her clients’ internal incident response team and other external stakeholders, such as digital forensic investigation firms, data mining firms and law enforcement, Char identifies any legal, regulatory or contractual obligations the organization has related to the incident and any unauthorized disclosure of its data and the data of its employees, customers, clients and partners. She also leads responses to inquiries and follow-ups from U.S. federal regulatory agencies, including with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), an agency she has extensive experience with during her legal career.

Immediately prior to joining Mullen Coughlin, Char was an Associate in the healthcare litigation practice of a full-service, regional law firm, defending healthcare professionals and entities in medical malpractice and general liability matters. She was also an Assistant Public Defender, prior to her private practice, with the Philadelphia Defender Association representing clients in a variety of misdemeanor- and felony-level cases.

Char received her J.D. from Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Howard University.
