Dane Hansen is an Associate in the Firm’s Incident Response practice. As Breach Counsel for organizations dealing with a data privacy and security incident, he leads the privileged investigation into the incident to determine what, if any, legal and regulatory obligations the organization has stemming from the incident. Working with digital forensic investigation firms, data mining firms and other incident response stakeholders (both internal and external), Dane reviews digital evidence to determine what the scope of the incident is and what U.S. state and federal, as well as international, laws and regulations pertain to the incident at hand. While industry agnostic, Dane is experienced and well-versed with the healthcare and life sciences industry and relevant laws such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, as well as state-specific data privacy and information security laws. He also coordinates responses to regulatory agency inquiries related to data privacy and security incidents.

Prior to joining Mullen Coughlin, Dane was a Contract Specialist for a Denver-based hospital system. There he managed the weekly pipeline of contracts related to various hospital departments and teams such as surgery, orthopedics, cardiovascular and general medicine.

Dane received his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and a B.A. in Political Science from Iowa State University.
