Ed Wiest is an Associate practicing in Mullen Coughlin’s Litigation practice group. He focuses his practice on defending organizations across all industry sectors in single-plaintiff, class action, and B2B data privacy- and security-related litigation. He routinely represents organizations against claims related to data privacy and security incidents and breaches; alleged violations of U.S. state, federal, and international consumer protection and privacy laws; the misuse of website tracking technologies; and breach of contract and other privacy-related commercial torts. Ed combines excellent legal writing and research skills with a strategic and analytical mindset to counsel his clients on their legal and regulatory options when faced with a third-party claim related to data privacy and security. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania.
Before joining Mullen Coughlin, Ed was an Assistant District Attorney (ADA) for the York County (PA) District Attorney’s Office. As an ADA, he handled over 30 jury trials ranging from complex financial crimes to homicides and other violent crimes. He was also a Senior Prosecutor on the Office’s General Trial Team, tasked with the supervision and training of deputy prosecutors and administrative staff, as well as the Senior Prosecutor for the Office’s Appellate Unit. In both these roles, Ed gained the necessary skills he uses today, such as negotiating, trial preparation, legal research and writing, and mentorship. He has argued before both the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and Superior Court.
Ed was also a Judicial Law Clerk for the Hon. Shawn D. Meyers of Pennsylvania’s 39th Judicial District, where he wrote opinions for the Judge in both criminal and civil cases.
Ed earned his J.D. cum laude from Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law, where he earned recognition into both the Woolsack Honor Society and the Order of the Barristers, and competed in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition for the school’s Moot Court team. He earned a B.A. from Stockton University.
