John F. Mullen, Sr. is a name partner and co-founder of Mullen Coughlin. He has been licensed in Pennsylvania and New Jersey since 1991.

Mr. Mullen and the firm focus their practice on assisting insureds in preparing for and responding to data privacy and network security events. He regularly presents on data privacy and network security issues for insurers and brokers (AJ Gallagher, AmWins, AON, Acrisure, Arc Excess, AXIS Pro, Crystal & Co, Hub International, Hylant Group, JLT Group, Lockton, Marsh & McLennan, RT Specialty, Wells Fargo, Willis Holdings Group, and Woodruff-Sawyer) via national webinar/phone, television conferences and live presentations (AM Best, NetDiligence, Advisen, ACI, CPCU, RIMS and PLUS), and has been published and quoted as a national expert on cyber/data loss issues in multiple publications.

The firm’s data privacy and security practice centers on immediate and comprehensive response to data loss events. Through this approach, Mr. Mullen and his team concentrate on determining the scope of the data loss through forensics, providing advice on legal issues including notification to affected customers and governmental entities, managing public relations, analyzing data/document handling and retention compliance, as well as managing appropriate customer remedies, litigation hold/e-discovery requirements, indemnity shifting analysis, class action and multi-district litigation (MDL) issues. Specifically, the firm serves as a “Breach Coach” or privacy counsel and uses a pool of third-party professional service providers who have the capabilities and experience to help organizations and businesses execute an effective data event response. In this role, Mr. Mullen provides data event consultation services and assists insureds by directing the vendors needed to address a data event including computer forensics providers, print notification and call center providers, public relations and crisis communication providers, fraud consultants, and credit monitoring and identity restoration providers.
