Practice Areas

Marc Robertson is an Associate in Mullen Coughlin’s Incident Response practice. He focuses his practice on providing Breach Counsel services to organizations who have been victimized by a data privacy and security incident. This includes incidents such as large-scale ransomware attacks, business email compromises (BECs) and wire fraud and other fraudulent fund transfer schemes, third-party vendor breaches and other unauthorized network intrusions. He works diligently with external partners to determine the nature and scope of the incident, and then counsels his clients on their legal, regulatory and/or contractual obligations stemming from the incident. Marc also provides assistance to clients who are facing scrutiny from state, federal and industry regulatory agencies with respect to data privacy and security incidents.

Marc has spent much of his career prior to Mullen Coughlin in the public sector in various legal and legislative roles, including with the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. Most recently, he served as Chief Counsel for National Security for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary managing the Committee’s national security, surveillance, and privacy portfolio.

Marc received his J.D. cum laude from Villanova Charles Widger School of Law and was the Student Works Editor for the Villanova Law Review. He had his article, “Don’t Press Send: Commonwealth vs. Diego Takes Reasonable Expectation of Privacy Away from Texters,” published in 2016.

Marc is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia and Virginia.
