Matthew Basilotto is an Associate in Mullen Coughlin’s Incident Response service area. When an organization is faced with a data privacy and security incident, such as a ransomware attack, business email compromise or third-party breach, Matthew assists the organization in their response and investigation into the incident. In doing so, Matthew works closely with third-party partners, such as forensic investigation firms and data mining firms, to help determine the nature and scope of the incident. After the incident is properly contained, and any potential impacted populations are identified, he then advises his clients on their legal, regulatory and industry-related obligations stemming from the incident. Matthew also assists clients with law enforcement and regulatory agency reporting, as necessary.
Before moving to private practice, Matthew was a Senior Cyber Claims Examiner for a global insurance carrier. There, he assisted insureds in evaluating coverage and responding to data privacy and security incidents. Prior to that, Matthew was a Law Clerk at a New York-based corporate law firm analyzing website privacy policies for compliance with the California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA) and other local and state privacy laws.
During law school, Matthew was a member of the Cyber Harassment Clinic where he assisted victims of cyber harassment and invasions of privacy on a pro bono basis.
