Megan Palmer is an Associate in Mullen Coughlin’s Incident Response practice group. She provides first-party breach counsel after a real or suspected data privacy and security incident on an organization such as, among others, unauthorized network intrusions, business email compromises (including wire fraud) and ransomware attacks. She guides her clients through the unfamiliar and often daunting incident response process by working closely with its internal stakeholders, as well as third-parties, to mitigate the incident, identify the scope and nature and counsel on legal, regulatory and contractual obligations. She liaises with cyber insurance carriers and brokers, as well as with law enforcement, to assist with making sure that all involved are up-to-date on incident status and prognosis.
After the incident has been determined to be over and systems and operations are back to normal, Megan counsels her clients on the legal and regulatory ramifications of the incident, such as notification; regulatory investigation and follow-up; and post-incident provisions like internal/external communications and credit/identity monitoring.
Prior to her legal practice, Megan was a Law Clerk with Mullen Coughlin. She assisted the incident response practice group with legal analysis and legal memo drafting.
Megan received her J.D. from the Temple University Beasley School of Law where she was a Law & Public Policy Scholar and a Fellow at the Institute for Law Innovation & Technology. She received her B.A. in Communications from Bringham Young University.
