Michael Riecken is an experienced commercial litigator and an Associate in the Firmโs Privacy Litigation practice group. He represents organizations from all industries in single-plaintiff and class action data privacy-related litigation, such as disputes stemming from a data privacy and security incident; allegations of violative practices related to U.S. state and federal consumer protection laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA); fraud; negligence; and breach of contract, among others. Michael uses his previous experience in handling dozens of litigation cases to successfully manage matters within prescribed budget and timeframe; use advanced legal strategies and theories; and provide minimal disruption to his clientsโ operations and reputation by working collaboratively to find a creative solution suited to their best interest.
In the course of his litigation practice, Michael also frequently represents organizations in data privacy-related regulatory investigations before, but not limited to, state Attorney Generals, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), as well as industry-specific regulatory bodies.
Before joining Mullen Coughlin, Michael practiced commercial litigation at several nationally recognized law firms. Prior to his private practice, he served a Law Clerk in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division.
While at Rutgers Law School, Michael was the editor for the Rutgers Journal of Law & Religion, a member of the Moot Court and a legislative fellow at the Eagleton Institute.
