Noland Deas is an Associate in Mullen Coughlin’s Incident Response practice. A former Law Clerk, and building on that experience, he devotes his practice to providing Breach Counsel services to organizations who have suffered through a data privacy and security incident. Industry-agnostic, Noland leads the privileged response and investigation into the incident, counseling them on their legal and regulatory obligations as a result of the incident, including assuring that all necessary and appropriate notification and other reporting documentation is made to affected populations, law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies. He routinely liaises with cyber insurance carriers, law enforcement, digital forensic and investigation firms and other incident response stakeholders during the lifecycle of the response.

As a Law Clerk previously, Noland assisted Incident Response partners in their response and investigation into various types of data privacy and security incidents. He also assisted in drafting client communications and responses to regulatory requests and follow-ups; maintained timely and accurate reporting for internal and external stakeholders; and monitored emerging legal trends and developments related to data privacy, information security and cybersecurity.

Prior to that, Noland was a Legal Intern with a national insurance company assisting the General Counsel’s Office with legal research related to data privacy, the SEC cybersecurity disclosure rule, compliance and regulatory matters and outside counsel coordination.

Noland received his J.D. from Rutgers Law School and is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania. While in law school, he served as a Senior Staff Editor for the Rutgers Business Law Review. He received a B.A. in Communications from The University of Alabama.

Outside of his practice, Noland is an avid swimmer and competed Division 1 on The University of Alabama’s Swim and Dive Team. In addition to swimming, Noland keeps active through golf, triathlons and white-water rafting.
