Paige Ross is an Associate attorney in Mullen Coughlin’s Incident Response practice group. She primarily serves as Breach Counsel for organizations of all sizes and across all industry group sectors after the identification of a data privacy and security incident. She manages the response and investigation into the incident, alongside incident response stakeholders such as forensic investigation firms, data mining firms, law enforcement and the organization’s internal incident response team.
After the incident is contained, she counsels organizations on their legal and regulatory obligations stemming from the incident. This includes notification to affected populations and business partners, as well as reporting of the incident to law enforcement and regulatory authorities. She then works with her clients and their stakeholders to effectuate notification and reporting, as well as with the provision on other post-incident services including credit/identity monitoring and internal/external communications strategies.
Through her experience, she has significant familiarity with a number of U.S. federal laws that relate to her data privacy and security incident response practice such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
In addition, Paige also responds to third-party and regulatory investigation and follow-up pertaining to data privacy and security incidents.
Paige was a Law Clerk with Mullen Coughlin, where she gained the necessary experience for her incident response practice. While a Law Clerk, she assisted the practice and attorneys with legal research and analysis related to notification obligations, new and prevailing data privacy and information security laws and regulations and with communication with third-party incident response stakeholders.
Paige also gained valuable experience as a Regulatory Compliance Extern with the Ohio State University Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Office. There, she monitored regulatory changes and presented on operational impacts; developed and implement strategies to minimize risk of non-compliance; and general legal research and analysis as needed.
Paige received her J.D. from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, specializing in data privacy, cybersecurity, national security and regulatory compliance, as well as being deeply involved in student leadership and personal and professional activities and clubs. She was elected President of the National Security Law Society and served in other significant leadership positions, including Treasurer of OutLaws; Vice President of Fundraising for the Public Interest Law Foundation; and Promotions and Tenure Lead for the Student Bar Association. Paige was also an active member of the Data and Privacy Club, the Women’s Legal Society and the ACLU Club.
Paige graduated summa cum laude from Ohio Wesleyan University, earning a B.A. in Pre-Law; She also completed minors in Philosophy, Women and Gender Studies and Critical Identities.
