Shalu Kodiyattu is an Associate in Mullen Coughlin’s Incident Response practice, responding to and leading privileged investigations into data privacy and security incidents. With nearly five (5) years of privacy experience, Shalu is able to effectively and efficiently counsel her clients with their legal, regulatory and contractual obligations stemming from data privacy and security incidents such as individual notification and law enforcement and regulatory agency reporting. She works diligently alongside various external incident response stakeholders, including cyber insurance claims teams, digital forensic investigators and data miners and law enforcement, as well as internal client infosec and legal teams, to mitigate the operational, financial and reputational effects of the incident on the organization and their clients and customers.
Prior to private practice, Shalu led privacy assessments for Fortune 500 companies across all industry sectors as a Senior Data Risk and Privacy Associate at a top advisory and consulting firm. She focused her assessments on compliance with various privacy- and security-related laws and regulations including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CPPA)/California Privacy Right Act (CPRA). She also has experience conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and leading privacy due diligence reviews and initiatives.
Shalu received her J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law, where she also was the Vice-President of the South Asian Law Student Association, and a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Delaware. In addition to English, Shalu speaks native Malayalam and is intermediate in Spanish and Arabic.
