Ransomware and Cryptocurrency: Facts, Threats and Countermeasures

As part of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Corporate Security Symposia (CSS), Jennifer Coughlin joins both private and public sector cybersecurity professionals and law enforcement at the Philadelphia regional event on Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Moderated by Darin Murphy of the FBI, and joined by Mark Greisiger (President, NetDiligence), Shawn Wright (Tactical Specialist, FBI), Sierra Stanczyk (Manager of Global Threat Intelligence, PwC) and John Riggie (Senior Advisor for Cybersecurity and Risk, American Hospital Association), Jennifer’s panel entitled “Ransomware and Cryptocurrency: Facts, Threats and Countermeasures” provides an overview of the continued threat of ransomware towards the private and public sector as well as the legal and regulatory considerations when paying ransoms using cryptocurrency.

The event’s opening remarks are provided by John Cohen of the DHS, Jacqueline Maguire of the FBI and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw. Other speakers from the DHS, FBI, the Philadelphia Police Department, Comcast Corporation, Wawa and the National Football League (NFL) present on topics such as: economic espionage; insider threats; threat intervention; the intersection of physical security and cybersecurity; and how the private and public sector can collaborate to counter the increased threat of ransomware attacks.

The CSS is a series of regional events across the country designed to generate discussion between public and private sector partners and share information on challenging issues facing the nation. Primarily intended for private sector security executives, each symposium’s topics and speakers are tailored to the needs of the region.
