Presenting “Cybersecurity and HIPAA – Avoiding a Breach” to a group of Kairos Health Systems members and other healthcare organizations and professionals, Alex gives an introduction to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and how it pertains to Kairos’ members and group health insurance providers. A basic review of the main terms and definitions included in HIPAA is discussed as well. Other points of discussion include:

โ€ข  The parallel investigations that occur during a HIPAA-related incident;
โ€ข  the intersection between HIPAA and state law; and
โ€ข  how an organization should prepare for the inevitable data privacy and cybersecurity incident.
