This webinar focuses on what organizations need to understand about cyber insurance, including underwriting and cyber risk evaluation, and how data privacy and security incidents begin. Alex will provide real-world examples and practical takeaways on how legal counsel works closely with organizations and cyber insurers to understand its risks, what insurers want to see, and how to have more productive conversations so that an organization is more aligned to respond to and investigate a data privacy and security incident.

Congratulations to Mullen Coughlin LLC Equity Partner Carolyn Purwin Ryan for being named as the recipient of the 2026 Toby Merrill Community Spirit Award, presented by NetDiligence at the Philadelphia Cyber Risk Summit on October 6. The Community Spirit Award honors the late Toby Merrill, a true legend and pioneer in cyber insurance, and is given to the individual who “fosters camaraderie and community within the cyber insurance industry.”
A fierce proponent and vocal cheerleader for the industry, Carolyn has focused her legal practice on providing insureds and insurers with comprehensive, data privacy and security-related risk management strategies and legal counsel. She is a welcomed face at industry-related events and conferences, routinely partnering with carriers and brokers to provide insights into incident response, cyber insurance, privacy litigation, and general cyber resilience.
“Toby embodied what community really means – kindness, generosity, showing up for people, and thinking of others before yourself,” commented Carolyn. “This community has shown me this in spades, and to receive an award bearing his name and celebrating those qualities means more than I can put into words.”
Congratulations to Carolyn and the full slate of Toby Merrill Award winners! Read more about the Awards here.
