Mullen Coughlin Grows Litigation Practice With Two (2) New Associates
Mullen Coughlin LLC grew its Litigation practice this June, welcoming two (2) new Associate attorneys to the practice – Kyle P. Dutch in Massachusetts and Edward J. Wiest in Pennsylvania. Both Kyle and Ed focus their practice on the defense of organizations against data privacy and security-related claims in single-plaintiff, class action, and B2B disputes.
Kyle brings over three (3) years of complex commercial litigation experience to the practice, having litigated a variety of diverse matters related to breach of contract, business torts, insurance, and administrative law. Prior to joining Mullen Coughlin, he practiced at a national law firm in their Litigation department. He received his J.D. from Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law and is licensed to practice in Massachusetts.
Ed joins the Firm from the York County District Attorney’s Office where he served as an Assistant District Attorney (ADA) and the Senior Prosecutor for the General Trial Team and the Appellate Unit. Having handled over 30 jury trials ranging from complex financial crimes to homicide and other violent crimes, Ed brings relevant negotiating, trial prep, and legal research and writing skills to the Firm’s Litigation practice. Ed earned his J.D. cum laude from Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law and is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania.

On Tuesday, July 21, Partner and Chair of the Litigation practice Carolyn Purwin Ryan presents on the webinar, “Stranger Things: Cyber Litigation in the Upside Down,” in collaboration with the International Women’s Cyber Alliance (IWCA).
Joined by a panel of cyber insurance and privacy professionals, Carolyn leads a lively discussion on the latest cyber litigation trends, including data breach class actions and privacy claims. The panel provides practical strategies in defending these types of cases, starting from early incident response considerations, through motion practice, discovery, expert testimony, and finally to identifying damages and settlement options.

Regulatory Environment – International, Federal, and State Breach & Privacy Laws
Mullen Coughlin Partner and Chair of the Litigation practice, Carolyn Purwin Ryan, is a faculty member for this year’s ClaimsXchange Cyber Claims Academy this July 14-15 in Chicago. Carolyn is a Professor for the “Regulatory Environment – International, Federal, and State Breach & Privacy Laws” session this year.
Carolyn uses the Firm’s collective litigation and regulatory defense experience, as well as her own Breach Counsel experience, to provide a deep dive into the various U.S. state, federal, and international various laws and regulations that underpin security- and privacy-related disputes of all types.
